AbdulAmeer Alwan, born in 1960 in Baghdad, Iraq, was a distinguished painter known for his expressive use of oil painting. Throughout his career, he held numerous solo exhibitions in Iraq, Jordan, and the United States, including showcases at the National Museum of Modern Art in Baghdad and the United Nations building in New York. His work, including the notable piece Girl with the Lantern, demonstrated a unique sensitivity to light and emotion, reflecting deep cultural and humanistic themes.

Alwan was a member of the Iraqi Artists Association and the Iraqi Artists Syndicate. In 2003, he moved to the United States, where he continued his artistic practice and participated in exhibitions highlighting immigrant experiences. In 2014, he received the AQD Prize for Literature, Art, and Peace for his contributions to the art world. He later passed away the same year in Dallas, Texas.  His legacy endures as a symbol of Iraqi artistic resilience.
